The WHS guidance department schedules an annual Naviance Parents
Night Workshop each year to any interested parents. This year, in
addition to the evening session - a morning session was also added. The
morning session was included for those parents that found it more convenient to
come to the school during the school day.
The counselors provided a
general presentation on the various features in Naviance such as: career
surveys, college and financial aid links, national scholarship search engine,
etc. Time was also allotted to help individual parents with any questions
they had concerning the use and application of this valuable college and career
planning resource. Individual laptops were available for parent use
during the workshop. In addition, the counselors provided each attendee
with the 2012/2013 copy of the Naviance Handbook. This booklet is
also posted to the Guidance website and the counselors will also be
distributing this booklet to all 9th grade students during the
freshman conferences scheduled for early November.
We had
close to 15 parents join us for the morning session and about 30 parents for
the evening session (with another 10 parents that registered but could not make
it at the last minute). The feedback was very positive and the parents
really appreciated the choice between a morning and evening workshop. Some of
the parent comments (via email) are noted below:
“The Naviance
workshop was very helpful this morning”
“Hi, I really
enjoyed it”
“The information
from tonight’s meeting was really helpful for both kids and parents. Naviance
is really easy and simple to get on and search”
Overall,
it was a successful workshop. We are thankful to Mr. Carroll for helping
generate interest for these workshops and for always promoting other guidance
related presentations and programs.
